Vils

Along the train line from Garmisch to Pfronten is Vils

Home to a castle ruin and an interesting quarry

A nice town square and a lovely flat hike out to near the ruin

About Another lovely Saturday hike in March.

Continuing the trend to shorter easier hikes. We went to Vils Austria. A quaint town with a nice town square and eagle statue. Plus a nice ruin about 20 minutes from town. Along the way we noticed this interesting overhead tram-like system, except instead of cabins for people, it had ore cars! A very fun system to move the ore from one side of the valley over the main road and part of the town to the plant on the opposite side. Also had a fun train danger sign. The journey was all by train courtesy of our Deutschland Ticket - the only free ride in Austria available with it.
