Kufstein Fortress and Prison

Less than two hours away and slightly up the Inn valley is the city of Kufstein and its fortress of the same name. It is a great spot on the Inn to collect tolls and command the entrance to the valley. The views are exceptional up and down the valley. It is mainly known today for its role as a prison in the 17th and 18th Centuries. The main tower block is an exhibit dedicated to the revolutionary prisoners of the Austro-Hungarian Empire during the revolution of 1848. Great history and stories that are mostly ignored today. If you are into torture artifacts they have a small collection. The city is cute and has a lively old town.
