About Our travels to Japan

After my traditional Tonkatsu lunch - Cordon Bleu style this time - off to the Kokugikan. The drums announce the 14th day of the touranment. Konoshiki had a booth outside selling memorabilia - pretty much the end of the Hawaiian Sumo crew from the 90s and 00s after Akebonos passing eariler this year. The sold out flag is flying on the top of the tower signifying the return to normal after COVID. Onosato won the tournament with a 12-3 record in only his sixth tournament in professional sumo - truly an amazing accomplishment. Saw many great bouts - cheered and booed with my seat neighbor. We spoke Sumo in my limited Japanese and his English for 4 hours. The last photo is the bowtwirler who puts ona great show after the last match. I have also included a shot of some of the kensho representing the companies who have sponsored the particuluar bout. Big money goes to the winners.
